Creativity VS Productivity: Mastering the Creator’s Dual Mind

The brain as a whole can manage 11 MILLION bits of information per second. The conscious mind can process 10-50 bits of information per second.

I came back from Portugal yesterday.

I know this newsletter isn't about travel, but that country is absolutely beautiful.

If you're thinking about visiting, I one hundred percent recommend it.

But it wasn't only the country that amazed me.

It was also my mind.

I can't remember a time in my life when my brain flooded with so many brilliant ideas.

Every day, I noted like 5-10 ideas for a potential newsletter and reels.

The funny thing is, I wasn't even focusing on it at all.

New ideas were simply coming nonstop, and I loved it.

That's why I decided to take a closer look into why this happens, to keep this mode active even when I come back.

And, I think I found why, even creating a new system I'm going to implement to continue with this "habit".

The Misconception of Hustle Culture

"I'm WoRkInG 12 HoUrS EaCh DaY, WhAt AbOuT yOu?"

I don't know who planted this idea into your head.

Andrew Tate, Iman Gadzhi, or any other skibidi sigma influencer?

If you're reading this newsletter, I assume you want to or are already engaged in some form of creative work, be it video or writing.

Creative tasks never come from forced work.

Yes, discipline is necessary to avoid laziness, but creativity cannot be forced.

If my brain isn't sharp, I simply stop working.

Pushing through when you're not mentally prepared only leads to subpar results.

Most people squander their mental energy because their attention is fragmented by:

  • Regretful thoughts about past mistakes

  • Stressful thoughts about future events

  • Desires for distraction through hunger and entertainment

  • An internal cry to break free from their conditioned way of living

  • A list of mixed-priority tasks that need to be finished

  • Open loops of incomplete tasks they forgot about

All this mental clutter could be avoided, freeing up space for creativity instead.

Harnessing Your Dual Mind

Here's the key:

Use your subconscious brain to generate ideas (creativity).

And your conscious brain to turn them into actionable plans (productivity).

Your subconscious brain is always at work in the background, processing crazy amounts of information and making connections that your conscious brain might miss.

This explains why I had so many ideas in Portugal—I was resting and enjoying myself.

When you rest, relax, and give your brain some breathing room, it can work its creative magic.

Organizing for Deep Work

So, how do you organize this into a deep work routine?

  • Creative Sessions:

    • Set aside time to relax and let your mind wander.

    • This is when your subconscious does its best work.

    • Note down any ideas that come up.

    • This could be during a walk, while taking a shower, or even during a leisurely coffee break.

  • Productive Work Blocks:

    • Use these periods to organize and refine the brainstorms from your creative sessions.

    • This is when your conscious brain takes over, bringing structure and clarity to the chaos of ideas.

    • Set specific times in your day for these work blocks to ensure focused and undistracted productivity.

Productive work blocks are best used to organize and edit the brainstorm you create during your creative sessions.

This balanced approach allows you to harness the full potential of both your conscious and subconscious minds.

That’s it!

I hope this helps you as much as it has helped me.
